Camminare Avanti

“Camminare avanti” means “to walk forward”.  Come join us as we walk forward into a new adventure, pushing the boundries of Texas Gulf Coast lifestyle and wine making.

About Our Vines

At Camminare Avanti, we are not only a winery but a vineyard as well.  In our vineyard, you will find two Texas grapes, Blanc Du Bois and our namesake, Camminare Nior.

Blanc Du Bois

Blanc du Bois is an American hybrid grape that was created in 1968 by John A. Mortensen at the University of Florida’s Central Florida Research and Education Center. Mortensen created this variety by crossing various Vitis vinifera grape varieties such as Golden Muscat with native Florida varieties. There are currently more acres of Blanc Du Bois grown in Texas than in any other state and it now ranks as the top produced white wine grapes in Texas. As the name implies, only white wine is made from Blanc du Bois grapes. You might taste citrus, peach, or floral notes, depending on the style, with a crisp acidity that keeps it refreshing.

Camminare Noir

Camminare Noir is a red wine grape that is 94% V. vinifera. It’s personality blends traits of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Think bright red fruit notes like raspberry and cherry, with a tannic, elegant structure—less dense, more refined. The development of Camminare Noir took decades of careful breeding by UC Davis researchers, led by Dr. Andrew Walker. It’s a product of multiple generations of crosses, balancing disease resistance with wine quality, finally released to the public around 2020. This selection is one of the earliest to break dormancy, and it also blooms and ripens early. The berries are relatively large and the well-filled clusters are medium in size.
